Pose-making Fail!

I thought I would try my hand at making poses.
It seemed easy as pie, so I followed some tutorials. For both Milkshape and Blender.

However, I just can't get pass this part in Blender. Working in Milkshape is fine, but this. Like a friend said, this is "scary".
